The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, discussed the current joint projects in the field of education and science and ways to strengthen cooperation with the Apostolic Envoy of the Vatican - José Avelino Bettencourt.
Giorgi Amilakhvari thanked José Avelino Bettencourt for the long-term partnership and support for a number of large-scale projects implemented in the education system.
The Minister informed the Apostolic Ambassador about the planned innovations in the field of education and his own visions. Giorgi Amilakhvari singled out the existing cooperation with the Vatican in terms of supporting scientists and researchers, which aims to strengthen ties between the parties in the fields of education and science in the protection and research of Christian heritage.
Furthermore, the Minister mentioned that last week a group of researchers funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia visited Vatican, where they intend to start working on Georgian and Georgia-related sources preserved in the "Propaganda Fide" historical archive. The said archival material is unknown to the scientific community, therefore, their identification and systematization will contribute to the implementation of new researches and the creation of new knowledge.
On his part, José Avelino Bettencourt expressed his willingness to expand joint educational projects and strengthen future cooperation and noted that the Vatican Embassy will actively cooperate with the Ministry in this direction.
