Giorgi Amilakhvari, the candidate for the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, discussed initiatives to support teachers during a joint session of the education, science, and youth affairs committees, as well as the culture, sports, health care, and social issues committees in parliament.
Giorgi Amilakhvari stated: "There will be an unprecedented increase in the budgetary funding for general education. Reflecting principles of fairness, the salary policy for teachers will undergo changes, resulting in a significant increase in remuneration for teachers and school administrative staff. Starting from July 1, 2024, teachers' salaries will increase by an average of 500 GEL or more, regardless of their status, assuming full workload. This increase, averaging 500 GEL or more, will impact approximately 70% of the teaching staff."
The ministerial candidate highlighted ongoing efforts to elevate the status of the teaching profession, including continued support events for teachers. These efforts include the celebration of National Teacher's Day, during which distinguished educators will be honoured.
Giorgi Amilakhvari emphasized plans to update regulations governing the teaching profession and implement continuous professional development measures tailored to teachers' specific professional needs.
