The
Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia hosted a meeting of the Inclusive
Education consulting group. The purpose of the group is to address the current
situation in the inclusive education, analyze the existing challenges in the
system and create joint agreements for the future activities. The members of
the consulting group are representatives of governmental, non-governmental and
international organizations.
Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia -Lia Gigauri
introduced the vision of the Ministry to the representatives and unveiled plans
for the development of inclusive education.
During the meeting, the Inclusive Education Development
department presented the regulations for the implementation, development and
further monitoring of the Inclusive education platform, and mechanisms for the
identification of the individuals with special educational needs, as approved
by the Decree of March 21, 2018 by the Minister of Education and Science of
Georgia. The document overviews the action plan for the effective
implementation of the inclusive education, in conjunction with presenting
general guidelines for the multidisciplinary teams and parental responsibility.
Additionally, a new program was discussed, regarding the transition of children
with special educational needs to schools.
