On August 12, in celebration of International Youth Day, the Local Self-Government Youth Forum focused on the social and economic strengthening of young people. The event was attended by Giorgi Amilakhvari, the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia.
In his address to the forum participants, Giorgi Amilakhvari congratulated everyone on International Youth Day and emphasized the importance of developing youth policy in the country. The forum participants engaged in discussions that aimed to identify new opportunities for cooperation to promote the social and economic development of young people in the region.
Key topics addressed during the forum included:
- Strengthening the role of local authorities in implementing the State Youth Strategy for 2023-2026
- Promoting employment opportunities for young people
- Development of skills through the State Internship Program
- Financing youth initiatives and projects
- Enhancing young people's participation in the decision-making process
The forum members voted on a resolution project aimed at the social and economic strengthening of youth. This document outlines the main recommendations for authorities and other stakeholders to bolster youth development.
The forum also included members from central and local legislative and executive branches, public officials, representatives from international organizations, and youth leaders.
Organized by the Committee on Education, Science, and Youth Affairs of Tbilisi, the 2024 Local Self-Government Forum received support from the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, the LEPL Youth Agency, and the National Association of Local Government.
The Local Self-Government Forum was founded on February 12, 2018, through the initiative of the Tbilisi City Council’s Sport and Youth Affairs Commission, and this marks the fourth year of the event.
The forum aims to deepen cooperation between municipalities, enhance communication between young people and local authorities, and promote youth policy. The slogan for the Youth Forum is "Generation Georgia" (GenerationGeorgia).
