The President of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) - Professor David Gordon and the head of the same organization - Sobhann Fitzpatrick visited Georgia. The aim of the visit was to get acquainted with the activities of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and to discuss the prospects of international accreditation of medical education programs.

Medical education in Georgia shall have international recognition after 2023. The organization of accreditation of the medical programs shall meet the standards of the World Federation of Medical Education. The National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement plans to gain recognition of the Federation, which will enable international accreditation of the medical programs both in Georgia and abroad.

The working meeting was held with the institutions carrying out the medical education programs within the framework of the visit, which was also attended by the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Education and Science Aleksandre Jejelava and the Minister of Labor, Health and Social Affairs Davit Sergeenko.

The President of the World Federation of Medical Education introduced the new requirements and future trends for medical education to the participants of the meeting. The institutions carrying out medical education programs have had the opportunity to get answers to the questions they were interested in.

Within the framework of the visit, the guests visited the Tbilisi State Medical University Clinic, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, National Center for Disease Control and Lugari Laboratory.
