This year vocational institutions joined the program “teach and learn together with Georgia.” Foreign volunteers and Georgian teachers have already launched working at colleges.
At the first stage 3 vocational colleges were selected: Black Sea (Batumi), Tetnuldi (Mestia) and Ikaros (Tbilisi). Volunteer foreigners and Georgian teachers will work there for a year.
Before they launched working foreign volunteers underwent training on vocational education, teaching methodology and communication with local community.
The program “teach and learn together with Georgia” was launched in 2010. Its goal is to improve the quality of teaching foreign languages, facilitate professional growth of local teachers and provide access to learning foreign language in local community.
So far the program has undergone numerous changes. The selection process of volunteer teachers and local schools was improved. In 2012 teachers of Chinese language joined the program. In 2015 volunteer teachers of French and German languages were also involved. Since 2013 the priority of vocational education demonstrated the necessity to improve language alongside with professional skills. Based on this trend national center for teacher professional development began to divide foreign volunteers in pilot regime.
