The European Vocational Skills Week has been launched in Georgia aiming to improve attractiveness and image of vocational education. Within the frameworks of the Week, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the German International Cooperation Society (GIZ) organized a conference “Skills for Tourism and Tourism for Skills”, which referred to the issues of teaching with the work-based dual approach in the tourism sector.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, together with GIZ and other partners, is actively working on increasing of scales of the work-based dual approach. This approach is effective as the students are informed about the requirements of the real working environment in the process of learning, the companies have the opportunity to monitor the students for the long period, to give them the necessary skills and to employ the best students in the company. Dual education is basically based on the principle of bilateral profit, where both an employer and a student get profit.

Within the frameworks of the Week, through organization of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and with the support of international donor organizations, vocational educational institutions and government organizations, a wide variety of activities will be carried out, that will facilitate raising of awareness of various stakeholders on vocational education and demonstration of the best practice. Students, companies, business organizations, educational programs and training providers, social partners, international donor organizations, governmental and non-governmental organizations and local experts are involved in the process.

The European Vocational Skills Week was first held in Brussels in 2016, where the Member States and other participating States were participating at national, regional and local levels in parallel.
