Two new laboratories of electrical engineering, equipped with the latest technologies, were unveiled today for the students of San Diego State University (SDSU) program, at Ivane Javakhishvili State University. The Tbilisi State University rector – Giorgi Sharvashidze, the Managing Director of the US Millennium Challenge Corporation – Catherine Entepp, The Deputy minister of Education and Science of Georgia – Aleksandre Tevzadze, The CEO of Millennium Challenge Account Georgia – Magda Maghradze and San Diego State University dean in Georgia – Haleel Gwen, attended the event. Students and guests were also invited for the grand opening.
“The development of STEM subjects, and the infrastructure of our partner universities, are the important tasks of our project. I am pleased that we have opened these laboratories of electrical engineering at Tbilisi State University, which represent the exact copy of the ones currently operating at San Diego State University, in the United States. Additionally, students will be able to put their theoretical knowledge in practice, thus truly mastering their profession”. The dean of San Diego State University - Haleel Gwen stated.
“The laboratories were opened within the scope of Millennium Challenge Corporation funding, which envisages the possibility of acquiring an American higher education in Georgia. As a result, young people now have the opportunity to be competitive on the international scientific market,” – The Deputy Minister – Aleksandre Tevzadze specified.
Furthermore, the Managing Director of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, Catherine Entepp, indicated, “The introduction of such infrastructure is very important for both universities because it is important for STEM students to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. Millennium Challenge Corporation is implementing the second compact in Georgia, and the main task of the second compact is to aid the education sector in Georgia. "
Additionally, it is important to note, that the full area of 1700 square meters, belonging to the eleventh building of Tbilisi State University was fully renovated, and equipped with the latest technology, including classrooms, computer rooms, working areas and electrical engineering laboratories. The laboratories and classrooms are in full compliance with the San Diego State University Standards, enabling the students to prepare for a successful career in the fields of natural sciences.
