Mikheil Batiashvili – the candidate for the minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, presented his views on higher education and science at the joint sitting of the committees at the Parliament of Georgia, which will thus be presented in detail, in the new strategic document. Various local and international experts of the relevant field will be involved in creating it.
The Ministerial candidate believes, that the state not only bears the responsibility for the quality of education it provides, but also should be in charge of promotion and quality assurance.
As Mikheil Batiashvili mentioned in his speech, reforms planned for higher education and science will be in line with the international standards, whereas the authorization and accreditation of Georgian universities will be in full compliance with the European standards of higher education. The Ministry will provide the real, long-term development of the system. Within the scope of the international partnership, joint research programs will be implemented with the involvement of foreign partners. Consequently, the involvement of Georgian scientists in international studies will be the main task of the Ministry.
Mikheil Batiashvili believes that such methods will in turn create a good investment environment and increase the cooperation of Georgian higher education institutions with leading European universities. The Ministry will facilitate the creation of bureaucratic barrier-free environment, which will attract highly ranked international universities, consequently positioning Georgia as a regional education center and enticing more foreign students.
According to Mikheil Batiashvili, Georgia should be established as a country exporting education. Foreign students should be offered various educational programs in all popular fields, creating a positive international image, as well as benefiting the country from the economical point of view.
Additionally, modern technologies will be given a solid priority in general and higher education teaching system. In order to improve the quality of teaching, the National Library will create a national digital platform that brings together all educational resources such as: literature, photo-video material, illustrations of our cultural heritage, BLOC program news, etc. A unified digital space, packed with all kinds of information resources will provide exhaustive material to all interested individuals.
