Mikheil Batiashvili - the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia presented the issue of grant funding of the graduate and postgraduate students at the government meeting. The new initiative will give talented students the opportunity to receive higher education though state support.
The amount allocated for undergraduate students for the 2018-2019 academic year amounts to 25 323 750 GEL, out of which 12 723 750 GEL will be given to the priority fields, and the rest 12 600 000 GEL will be spent for the state study grant.
The sum will be distributed in accordance to the various categories: 9 155 000 GEL for the full and partial funding of the state education grants; Student social program funding - 2 520 000, foreign students enrolled through national exams – 240,000, Azerbaijani-language students enrolled though the general skills examinations – 225,000; Armenian-language students enrolled through general skills examinations – 225,000, Abkhazian-language students enrolled through general skills examinations 10,000; Ossetian-language students enrolled through general skills exams – 10,000, whereas the students who improve their grant – 215,000.
For the 2018-2019 academic year, the annual grants for the postgraduate degree will be determined by 2 250 000 GEL and the sum will be distributed as follows: Priority fields - 2 000 000, funding of postgraduate students through social service programs – 205,000, and grants for the foreign students enrolled through the national exams – 45,000.
