The first meeting of the Interagency working group was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Ekaterine Dgebuadze to improve the sanitary-hygienic standard in schools.

During the meeting, Ekaterine Dgebuadze noted, that the goal of the Ministry is to protect the health and safety of each student and thus create a perfect learning environment in schools. Additionally, according to the deputy minister, in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, wider scope of obligations have been defined for schools for the 2020-2021 academic year. Ultimately, it is of paramount importance to raise the sanitary-hygienic conditions of Georgian public schools by sharing the best practices. 

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister emphasized, that at this stage, the general education infrastructure is being intensively regulated throughout Georgia in order to ensure the maximum observance of hygiene norms in schools.

During the meeting, representatives of various agencies discussed the development of a specific mechanism that will ensure the observance of sanitary-hygienic conditions in schools and further monitoring, as well as strengthening the school doctor institute and improving the standard of nutrition. The parties discussed concrete plans in this regard and agreed on the format of cooperation.

The Interagency Working Group brings together experts in various fields from the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC), Tbilisi State Medical University, LEPL National Food Agency, UNICEF, UNIC From the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and the Office of the Public Defender of Georgia.
