In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, according to the decision of the Interagency Coordination Council headed by the Prime Minister, the remote educational process will resume from September 15 in the following cities: Tbilisi, Gori, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi and Poti. This regulation is already in force in Kobuleti and Batumi.

Ekaterine Dgebuadze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia spoke about the issue at a special briefing, where she provided detailed information to journalists and media representatives.

As the Deputy Minister explained, those educational institutions that have already started the educational process should switch to the format of distance learning. The decision applies to both public and private schools and universities.

According to her, in addition to the above-mentioned cities, the educational process in other municipalities will start on September 15 in classrooms and auditoriums.

"The education system is ready to start the learning process both in the classrooms and remotely. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia was intensively preparing the entire summer for a so-called hybrid model, which involves conducting a learning process using a mixed method. To fully stabilize the learning environment, there is a new distance learning regulation created and approved. All relevant changes have been made in the national curriculum, and all schools were subsequently informed. Based on the previous experience, the Ministry has accumulated enough experience to allow the smooth execution of the remote learning environment.

Moreover, the Ministry took the liberty to provide schools with textbooks and computers, that ae handed over to the students in stages, gradually.

Furthermore, owing to the initiative of the Ministry, an electronic journal will be introduced from the new academic year, which will further strengthen the educational process and facilitate its day-to-day operational side. This new electronic journal will help teachers record both student attendance and assessment.

Additionally, public schools are fully provided with special disinfection barriers, surface disinfectants and remote thermometers.

In accordance with the National Curriculum, in order to provide a universal access to education, the project "TV School” will also be renewed for students from September 15 on the First Channel – Education.
