The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia has developed relevant recommendations for schools to support students with special educational needs. All general education institutions have already been informed about this and the educational process for SEN students is being actively organized at schools.

Tbilisi Public School No. 202 for the visually impaired children plans to return to the classroom on February 15 according to the updated recommendations. Ekaterine Dgebuadze, First Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia visited the mentioned general education institution and got acquainted with the preparation process on the spot.

The First Deputy Minister noted that the updated recommendations of the Ministry will help the administration of the general education institution to plan the educational process taking into account the individual needs and sanitary-hygienic standards for SEN students.

According to Eka Dgebuadze, a safe educational environment has been created for students in Public School No. 202. The general education institution is fully equipped with all the necessary resources and inventory for the prevention of the virus, the building has a resource room, a doctor's office, and an isolation space. In addition, mobility-orientation specialists work on the spot to help students who are visually impaired.

Ekaterine Dgebuadze focused on the additional opportunity offered to parents, according to which the parent is given the opportunity to choose between distance learning and traditional method of learning. Accordingly, parents of students wishing to resume distance learning school can also register an on a specially created portal, after which the student can freely continue their studies at home.

The updated recommendations also include the rules for the use of personal protective equipment for SEN students. In particular, a student with special educational needs who is unable to wear a facemask due to his / her health condition is given the opportunity to move around the school premises without it. The parent should notify the school administration.

Owing to the decision of the Interagency Council, it is necessary for V-XII grade students to wear a facemask in schools of Georgia. Additional detailed instructions will be sent to the schools.
