“"Our victory depends on the faith and hope that you give us”, “these words said from your little hearts mean a lot to us“, „I’m happy that as great people as you and your friends worry about us”… This is the beginning of the response letters received by the pupils of Georgian-American High School from the soldiers being in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. The young people sent the letters to the Georgian peacekeepers several months ago within the framework of the project – “Letters for Soldiers”.

In the letters the children express their support to the soldiers being away from their homeland and are interested in their lifestyles: “To me you are the devoted people to Georgia”, “I wish all the Georgians took the leaf out of your book and competed with you in love of the homeland”, “Brave soldiers, I’m interested in many things – How do you train, how do you travel?”… The addressees of the letters were the militants of the 23^rd battalion of II Infantry Brigade of the Georgian Armed Forces and they are stationed on the Bagram Air Base.

Today, the Minister of Defense Levan Izoria, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Lia Gigauri and the Deputy Minister of Justice Mikheil Sarjveladze together with the militants returned from Afghanistan peacekeeping mission visited the Georgian-American High School. They delivered the response letters sent by the Georgian peacekeepers in Afghanistan to the pupils of the IV-V grades. The militants and the pupils opened and read the letters together. The event continued with a video conference. The pupils were given the chance to talk and ask questions to the soldiers with whom they have made friends.

„Letters for Soldiers” is a joint project of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of Defense of Georgia. This project has been implemented by the Centre of Crime Prevention along with the students since 2012.

The aim of the project is to express its support to the warriors being away from their homeland.
