With the initiative of Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the new state program will be launched in order to protect and develop Abkhazian language. The relevant Memorandum was signed on October 27, between the two governmental bodies on the day of Abkhazian language.

The memorandum was signed by Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Aleksandre Jejelava and State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.

According to the Agreement, the Parties will take joint efforts to protect, maintain and promote Abkhazian language, will assist to cooperation between Georgian and Abkhazian specialists and professional groups working on relevant issues, and implement bilateral trust projects.

The Ministers emphasized the constitutional commitment of the state to take care of the Abkhazian language and the state significance of the project.

Within the framework of the project, educational and research institutions, researchers and stakeholders can submit initiatives related to study, protection and development of Abkhazian language.

The event of Memorandum signing was held at the Ministry of Education and Science and was attended by representatives of educational and scientific institutions, NGOs, and various governmental structures interested in research of Abkhazian language.
