The Ministry of Education and Science
of Georgia has implemented the selection process for the innovative, modern
textbooks of modern standards for the students of I-VI grade throughout Georgia.
There are a number of subject specialists, together with psychologists,
philologists and even legal representatives involved in the development
process.
The Ministry calls on the society to be more actively involved in the textbook
selection process, as the major goal is to devise the best possible result, and
that is precisely why, all interested parties - parents, teachers, subject
specialists are invited to participate.
In order for the new textbooks to fully comply with modern requirements and
standards, in conformity with the age specificity, the National Curriculum was
substantially modified. Consequently, the evaluation criteria and the
evaluation system by itself was fundamentally altered. Additionally, all
participants involved were retrained. The trainings were conducted in close
proximity with the textbook authors, as well as with the assessment groups and
other project administration.
Due to the high interest of the
approval process, and the support from the authors, there are 112 applications
presented in 13 subjects, which renders to 795 items in terms of the electronic
material. Moreover, according to the new development, all textbooks should include
an auxiliary website, where additional resources and literary materials will be
posted and frequently updated.
The approval process is unique, in that the public discussion of such sort is
held for the first time. Vocational feedback groups began to work on the
textbook assessment at the end of 2017, and today, on March 5, 2018, The
Ministry has successfully initiated the Public discussion through an electronic
portal. The portal is accessible to public at any given time, and any
interested individual has the possibility to supply the authors or the
assessment teams with their opinion and/or outlook.

Your opinion can be presented in
three main categories:
● Content Error - in case a mistake
occurs in a historical or scientific fact, answer key or logical discussion is
flawed.
● Technical Error - for any technical
nature, such as font distortion, field infringement, missing or defected
illustration.
● Recommendation / Opinion - Any kind
of suggestion that is focused on general improvement of the textbook, the
provision of ideas is anonymous.
Undoubtedly, another important aspect is that all public resources are
available for public discussion. Despite the fact that there are numerous substantial
flaws already identified s in a number of textbooks, it is important for the
Ministry, that the public have access to all applications and no textbook
remains without the public discussion.
