The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia announces the textbook approval competition for basic and secondary grades.
Mariam Chikobava, head of the Department of Preschool and General Education, emphasized at the special briefing that the terms of the new competition will be clear at the beginning of the process and there will be no change in the substantive changes during the course of the entire competition process. After consultation with publishers and other stakeholders, the reviewing rule will be approved, as well as content and technical criteria for further evaluation.
Unlike previous textbook approval competition, the selection process of appraisers will be transparent, and the textbooks will be evaluated with no additional jury, only one group of volunteers will be involved this time.
The textbooks will be evaluated with different criteria: compliance with national curriculum; Content management; Structural adjustment; Language confidentiality; Compliance with legal and ethical norms; Compliance with the principles of sustainable development.
As it is known, on the basis of the ongoing reforms in the education system, the focus of the new National Curriculum is not only to remember the content but to attain critical understanding, develop the skills in research, creative and cooperation.
Consequently, along with these components, special attention will be paid to the quality of textbooks. It is important that the requirements for manual authors are very clear and comprehensive.
It is also important to note that according to the changes in the texting procedure, the publishers will have more time for writing the textbooks - more than 4 months for the VII grade manual.
The more time will be spent on choosing the authors themselves. In particular, subject consultations will be intensively conducted for them to understand the criteria for understanding and evaluating the specific subject standard. The representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations will also conduct thematic workshops for authors, because it is important for the Ministry there are no inconveniences caused during the entire process.
